With its well experienced engineering service, Fermco industries Ltd use specialized softwares to calculate posts, beams and lintel bearings. In prefabricated cottages and houses shell manufacturing, kit or modular houses, standard or split level houses, cottages, condos, or agricultural and commercial buildings, Fermco industries Ltd use
engineered wood such as MICROLLAM™ LVL, PARALLAM® PSL, TIMBERSTRAND® LSL and steel beams and posts.
Available for your project:
- Posts and beams calculations with specialized softwares
- Engineering service
- Steel beams allo for more livable space
- Steel beams assembled with naling board
- Calculations and shop drawings furnished as per your plans
Structural components are available in the following types:
MICROLLAM™ LVL
PARALLAM® PSL
TIMBERSTRAND® LSL
STEEL
Installed timber lintels over doors and windows are often too weak to support the required loads. In that case, lintels might bend and push on the windows and doors frames warping the frames and making it difficult to open.
In the same way, when the lintel length is excessive, like over garage doors, timber pieces will tend to bend and warp. Those deformations might also make the frame unstable and difficult to attain an airproof and waterproof opening.
Microllam® LVL lintels are furnished for those specific needs. They are composed of laminated and glued veneer lumbers and offer a greater rigidity and stability to humidity than ordinary timber wood.
Their use reduces cracks in the plasterboard at the upper corner of large doors and windows.
Microllam® LVL posts and lintels are available in the following sizes:
Widths: 1 3⁄4" (44,5 mm)
Heights: 5 1⁄2" (139,7 mm), 7 1⁄4" (190,5 mm), 9 1⁄4" (235 mm),
9 1⁄2" (241,3 mm),
11 1⁄4" (285,8 mm), 117⁄8" (301,6 mm), 14" (355,6 mm), 16" (406,4
mm), 18" (457,2 mm) and 20" (508 mm)
Available lengths up to 17 m (56 feet).
Parallam® PSL beams and lintels are products offering a great rigidity and can replace steel when the span and supported loads are too heavy for standard timber wood. Like engineered wood beams and lintels, those products are ideal for their stability and straightness. So, the walls and floors supporting those frame components will not show cracks or deformation from shrinkage after drying. Parallam® PSL products have the straightness of steel and the handiness of wood. They incorporate more easily than steel in a half-timbered wood frame.
Beams and lintels are manufactured from high quality wood that would be normally wasted in timber manufacturing. The manufacturing process make it possible to use almost all the tree wood, therefore optimizing the use of our natural ressource.
Parallam® PSL posts and lintels are available in the following sizes:
Widths: 2 11⁄16" (68,3 mm), 3 1⁄2" (88,9
mm), 5 1⁄4" (133,4 mm), and 7" (177,8 mm)
Heights: 9 1⁄4" (235 mm), 9 1⁄2" (241,3 mm), 11 1⁄4" (285,8 mm),
11 7⁄8" (301,6 mm), 14" (355,6 mm),
16" (406,4 mm) and 18" (457,2 mm)
Parallam® PSL columns and beams are available in the following sizes:
3 1⁄2" x 3 1⁄2" (88,9 x 88,9 mm), 3 1⁄2" x 5 1⁄4" (88,9 x 133,4
mm), 3 1⁄2" x 7" (88,9 x 177,8 mm),
5 1⁄4" x 5 1⁄4" (133,4 x 133,4 mm), 5 1⁄4" x 7" (133,4 x 177,8
mm) and 7" x 7" (177,8 x 177,8 mm)
Available lengths up to 17 m (56 feet).
TimberStrand® LSL products have been developped mainly to replace standard timber wood beams and lintels higher walls. In facts, in the actual residential design, we can find, with exterior walls attaining 12 to 17 feet of height. Often, those exterior walls have larger window areas. In this case, use of standard timber beams and lintels is not recommended since those long pieces tend to bend. This can causecrack problems in interior and exterior finishes and also in windows waterseal fissuring.
None appropriate products will cause cracks on exterior and interior finishing products, as well as air and water infiltration in the window openings.
TimberStrand® LSL products have the advantage of being straight and stable. Like the Microllam® LVL products, they are used for lintels but their load capacity is lesser.
TimberStrand® LSL beams are available in the following sizes:
Widths: 1 3⁄4" (44,5 mm)
Heights: 9 1⁄4" (235 mm), 9 1⁄2" (241,3 mm), 11 1⁄4" (285,8 mm),
11 7⁄8" (301,6 mm), 14" (355,6 mm)
and 16" (406,4 mm)
Widths: 3 1⁄2" (88,9 mm)
Heights: 9 1⁄4" (235 mm), 9 1⁄2" (241,3 mm), 11 1⁄4" (285,8 mm),
11 7⁄8" (301,6 mm), 14" (355,6 mm)
et 16" (406,4 mm)
TimberStrand® LSL lintels are available in the following sizes:
Widths: 31⁄2" (88,9 mm)
Hauteur: 4 3⁄8" (111,1 mm), 5 1⁄2" (139,7 mm), 7 1⁄4" (190,5 mm),
8 5⁄8" (219,1 mm), 9 1⁄4" (235 mm)
and 11 1⁄4" (285,8 mm)
TimberStrand® LSL columns and posts are available in the following sizes:
3 1⁄2" x 3 1⁄2" (88,9 x 88,9 mm), 3 1⁄2" x 4
3⁄8" (88,9 x 111,1 mm), 3 1⁄2" x 5 1⁄2" (88,9 x 139,7 mm)
3 1⁄2" x 7 1⁄4" (88,9 x 190,5 mm) and 3 1⁄2" x 8 5⁄8" (88,9 x
219,1 mm)
For longer spans or heavier loads, steel is used. Many steel shape beams and girders as well as open frame joists are available depending on your specific needs.
Fermco Industries Ltd offer all these products. In fact, we do the conversion of structural steel components at the factory. Steel columns, adjustable or custom built and custom built girders are are ready for assembly using installation plans for the structure and floor trusses that are numbered and color coded for easy assembly.
Columns in HSS shape replace round post that are often too weak.
Steel construction offer advantages over engineered wood construction by its greater stability, solidity, strength and competitive price, when required.
